Pitt released its depth chart for Week Two on Monday, and here's a look at the notables in the two-deep.
- The only change on offense in the wake of the YSU game was at right guard, where redshirt junior Alex Bookser was added as an "OR" started with Brandon Hodges. Bookser started all 13 games at right guard last season but was suspended for the 2017 opener following a legal incident over the summer.
Hodges, who arrived as a graduate transfer from Texas shortly before training camp, started the YSU game at right guard and played all but two series. Redshirt junior Mike Herndon took the snaps on those two drives in place of Hodges.
- If Bookser returns to the starting lineup, it doesn't automatically mean Hodges goes to the bench. Pitt has a lot of versatility on the offensive line this season and there are a few combinations the coaches could try. Hodges could play guard or tackle, for instance, so he could slide out to right tackle if the coaches want to try someone other than Jaryd Jones-Smith.
Or Hodges could move to left guard and redshirt senior Alex Officer could slide to center, where he started every game last season. Or the coaches could simply replace Hodges with Bookser if they feel that Hodges is not currently one of their five best linemen.
Those decisions will likely be made this week in practice.
- There were no changes to the depth chart on defense for Week Two, as the coaches went with the exact same listing as they released prior to the season opener.
- Of the 28 players listed on the defensive depth chart, eight did not play a snap on defense: freshman defensive tackle Jaylen Twyman, redshirt junior linebacker Jalen Williams, redshirt freshman linebacker Chase Pine, redshirt sophomore linebacker Anthony McKee, freshman cornerback Jason Pinnock (although he did play on special teams), redshirt sophomore cornerback Malik Henderson and redshirt freshman safeties Phil Campbell and Henry Miller.
Also, redshirt sophomore safety/linebacker Rimoni Dorsey only played one snap on defense; he ran onto the field for a play when Pitt was having substitution issues with its third-down package.
- No changes on special teams either as Pitt heads into Week Two.
