As first reported by Trib Total Media's Jerry DiPaola, Pitt received its 12th commitment of the 2018 class on Tuesday, August 1st from Phenix City (Ala.) Glenwood wide receiver Cameron O'Neil. O'Neil is a 6-foot-2, 190-pound wide receiver who caught 75 passes for 638 yards and seven receiving touchdowns during his junior season at Glenwood. The talented 2018 prospect's strong junior campaign led to offers from programs like Pitt, Wisconsin, Virginia, Illinois, and a longer list of Group of Five and FCS schools.

O'Neil is the first wide receiver to commit to Pitt in the 2018 class. He will likely be the only player being added to Kevin Sherman's position group in this cycle after Pitt signed three receivers - Dontavius Butler, Darian Street, and Michael Smith - in the 2017 recruiting class.

Prior to O'Neil's commitment, Pitt's class was slotted as the 57th-ranked group among 2018 recruiting class. O'Neil, rated as just a two-star at the moment, bumps them up one spot to 56th, climbing ahead of Rutgers and leaving Pat Narduzzi's program just behind SEC powerhouses Alabama and Georgia.

It seemed as though O'Neil's commitment was imminent after the Alabama receiver visited Pitt over the weekend of July 21st. O'Neil said he was "amazed" by the visit at the time and gushed about the trip when speaking with Panther-Lair.com publisher Chris Peak.

“It just felt like family,” he said. “When I went to Pitt, even though I’ve never been there, it felt like home already. The thing that stood out the most is how the coaches, instead of talking about football, they want to get to know you on a closer level. That’s the thing that stood out the most.”

O'Neil feels that he'll be able to bring a polished skill-set to Pittsburgh whenever he arrives on campus and discussed what kind of impact he could have as a receiver at the college level.

“I think it’s my route-running and the way I attack the ball in the air,” he said. “Wherever the ball is, I’m going to come down with it. I have speed but I’m not the fastest; it’s my route-running and ability to get the ball that sets me apart.”
