PROVIDENCE, R.I. — University of Pittsburgh senior forward Chevon Troutman became just the seventh player in school history to earn All-Big East First Team honors following a vote of the league's 12 head coaches. In addition to Troutman's selection, junior guard Carl Krauser earned All-Big East Second Team honors, sophomore center Chris Taft was named honorable mention and freshman guard Ronald Ramon earned All-Rookie team honors. The league will announce its award winners for Most Valuable Player, Most Improved Player, Best Defensive Player, Coach of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Sportsmanship awards at a Tuesday evening press conference.

A senior from Williamsport, Pa., Troutman concluded the regular season averaging 15.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. He also ranks among team leaders in a variety of statistics including field goal percentage (.587), free throw percentage (.709), blocked shots (25) and steals (30). Troutman, who earned All-Big East honorable mention honors in 2002-03, has registered eight double-doubles on the year, reached double figure scoring in 21 of 27 games and notched double-figure rebounds in nine contests. Troutman, along with fellow senior Mark McCarroll, will conclude their careers as the winningest senior class in school history.
Krauser earned All-Big East Second Team honors for the second consecutive season. The junior from Bronx, N.Y., leads Pittsburgh in scoring (15.5 ppg), assists (163, 6.0 apg), minutes played per game (35.3) and free throw percentage (.757). A candidate for the John R. Wooden National Player of the Year Award and Bob Cousy Award, Krauser reached several milestones on the year as he became the 33rd player at Pittsburgh to score 1,000-career points and just the fifth player in school history to surpass both 1,000 points and 400 assists in a career.
As a sophomore, Taft earns Big East honors for the second consecutive season. The Big East Rookie of the Year and All-Big East Third Team selection in 2003-04, Taft averages 13.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game and leads the Panthers in blocked shots (47). Taft recently earned co-Big East Player of the Week honors after averaging 19.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in Pitt's two road victories at No. 5 Boston College and at Notre Dame.
Ramon becomes the second Panther in as many seasons to earn All-Big East Rookie Team honors as Taft received the honor in 2003-04. A native of Bronx, N.Y., Ramon averages 7.1 points and 1.9 assists per game while playing 26.2 minutes per game off the bench. He currently ranks among the school's all-time freshman leaders in three categories: three point field goals (43), three point field goal attempts (119) and three point field goal percentage (.361).
No. 5 seeded Pittsburgh (20-7, 10-6 Big East) opens Big East Championship competition when it plays No. 4 seed Villanova (21-6, 11-5 Big East) on Thursday at 2 p.m. The contest will be nationally televised on ESPN2.
