Pitt added a huge piece to the 2017 recruiting class Wednesday afternoon when Lakeland (Fla.) running back Anthony Davis announced on ESPN2 that he would be signing with the Panthers.

The No. 14 running back prospect in the nation and a Rivals250 recruit, Davis was being recruited by schools from across the country, with offers Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, South Carolina, Southern Miss, USF, Tennessee, Texas, Texas Tech, West Virginia and UCF.

But he narrowed his list to Pitt, Louisville and USF - where new head coach Charlie Strong made a strong push - before committing to the Panthers on Wednesday. Davis took an official visit to Pitt in early December with his teammate, cornerback Damarri Mathis, who also committed to the Panthers last month.

Davis is the seventh/eighth recruit from the state of Florida to commit to Pitt in this class and the second running back along with Ohio standout Todd Sibley. Pitt now has three/four four-star recruits in the class as well: Davis, Steel Valley safety Paris Ford, Steubenville tight end Charles Reeves (and Florida defensive end Guy Thomas, who also committed on Wednesday).
