Pitt is the first FBS offer for 2019 QB

Davis Beville is a 6’6” 205-pound quarterback whose mix of throwing and running is impressive, yet somehow the 2019 Simpsonville (S.C.) Greenville prospect was still waiting for his first FBS offer.

On Monday, that changed when Pitt pulled the trigger.

“I first heard from them last week and I was texting with some of the recruiting assistants,” Beville told Panther-Lair.com Tuesday morning. “Then I got a text from Coach (Pat) Narduzzi yesterday and got on the phone with them last night, and that was when they offered.”

Beville said his offer came directly from offensive coordinator Shawn Watson.

“He told me that they like to see their quarterbacks in person and see them throw, but he loved what he saw on my film so he decided to go for it. He said he likes that I’m pro-style but I can take off and run and make plays.

“He seems like a coach who really cares about his players and I can definitely tell that he believes in me; that’s crazy to think about. And he told me that Pitt runs a pro-style offense, but they want a passer who can make plays and create plays.”

So far in 2017, Beville has made more than his share of plays. Through nine games, he had thrown for 25 touchdowns and rushed for five more.

“I’m kind of like a second running back, honestly,” Beville said. “We run a balanced spread and just go with the hot hand. So I think I’m a pretty balanced player I think I’m a better passer than runner, but I can do both.”

Pitt is the second school overall but the first FBS team to offer Beville (the other is Campbell). He said he is hearing from a number of other schools and has attended games at Duke, Virginia Tech and South Carolina this season. But the Panthers made an impact by being the first one to jump in with an offer.

“I’ve heard a lot of interest from schools that could be close to pulling the trigger, but Pitt will stand out for being first,” he said. “It’s a great school and a lot of legends that have come out of there. Plus they share all their stuff with the Steelers; that’s just crazy that you work next to some NFL players.

“Pitt has definitely caught my eye with being the first one. I can’t wait to get up there and see what they have to offer.”

To that end, Beville said he plans to attend Pitt’s game against Virginia this weekend at Heinz Field.
