Plantation (Fla.) wide receiver Dontavius Butler has signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Pitt.

Dontavius Butler became the 18th player to sign with Pitt’s football program in the 2017 recruiting class on National Signing Day, joining his classmates signing today and four early enrollees who have already been in class at Pitt. First mention on Rivals: Butler made a big impression on the Rivals analysts at a Rivals Camp Series event in Miami and eventually picked up offers from the likes of Pitt, North Carolina State, Temple, and several other programs. At the end of July 2016, Butler named Pitt the leader in his recruitment.

Butler commits to Pitt: Butler committed to Pitt on July 31st, 2016, over his offers from NC State, Florida Atlantic, and others. The 6-foot-2, 197-pound wide receiver was Pitt's 10th commitment and joined Darian Street at the wide receiver position.

In his words: "The reason that I chose Pitt is because I really have a family bond with the coaching staff. I feel that they are a perfect fit for the player that I am. The university is also a perfect fit for my major," Butler explained to Panther-Lair following his commitment.

Butler's impact: "At his size, Butler is a powerful wide receiver. He’s already pushing 200 pounds before his senior year and he’s only going to get stronger as he adds muscle and refines his conditioning in a college weight room under the tutelage of nutritionists and strength coaches. He shows the ability to comfortably beat jam attempts at the line of scrimmage and can get open in short-yardage situations with relative ease." Read more on Butler's Film Room Friday.

On his official visit: “It was amazing. It actually exceeded my expectations of the school. I had seen pictures of the school, but to actually see it in person – the facilities, the school, the Cathedral – it was great,” Butler said, having not visited Pitt at the time of his commitment.
