Pitt has received a commitment from former USC Trojans quarterback Max Browne on Thursday, December 15th. Browne is a graduate transfer who announced his intentions to leave the USC program and will be eligible to play immediately for the 2017 season.

The sole official visit from Browne in his second leg of the recruiting process was to Pitt on the weekend of December 9th. Although the departure of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Matt Canada to LSU just days before his announcement led to some consternation about Browne's announcement, a "Pat Signal" from Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi signaled the recruitment a little after 4 P.M. EST on Thursday. Browne quickly confirmed the news with a statement of his own:

Browne was rated as a five-star prospect and the country's number-one quarterback when he was coming out of high school in the class of 2013. A native of Sammawish (Wash.) Skyline, Browne committed to USC over offers from Power Five programs like Alabama, Cal, Clemson, Washington, and Wisconsin.

While Browne sat behind current Cleveland Browns quarterback Cody Kessler for much of his career at USC, the former five-star started the first three games of the 2016 season for the Trojans. In those three starts, Browne posted a 62.4% completion rate (58-for-93) for 507 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Redshirt freshman Sam Darnold supplanted Browne in a breakout season for USC, leading them to a Rose Bowl appearance against Penn State that will be played on January 2nd.
