New Castle (Pa.) Neshannock tight end Tyler Sear became Pitt’s second commit at his position in August when he flipped from the Temple Owls to the Panthers. The local prospect waited less than a week to commit to Pitt after receiving his offer, pledging on the same day as fellow local tight end Grant Carrigan of Pine-Richland.

Sear (along with his future teammate Carrigan) will instantly provide Pitt with depth at the tight end position when he arrives on campus, something they badly needed with zero players holding freshman eligibility at the position. The last time Pitt landed a tight end in recruiting out of high school who’s still with the program was the 2013 recruiting class. So as far as immediately filling a roster spot at a position of need, Sear will be very useful in that regard.

What’s more is that the New Castle-area product has the physical tools to be ready to play early on in a blocking role. Sear is already 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds before his senior year of football has begun in earnest and he’s only going to get bigger. When he gets to college, the strength and conditioning program will pack even more muscle on to his frame, but he’s already very powerful. He should likely play most of his college career around 265 pounds.
