VIDEO: Brian Asamoah breaks down his top six, recent visits

Standout 2018 linebacker Brian Asamoah, a product of Columbus (Ohio) St. Francis DeSales, sat down with Panther-Lair.com to discuss his top six schools, recruiting plans, recent visits, and much more.

2018 Columbus (Ohio) St. Francis DeSales athlete Brian Asamoah has emerged over the last year as one of the Midwest's top linebackers. On February 24th, Asamoah released a list of his top six programs - Cincinnati, Michigan, Penn State, Pitt, UCLA, and West Virginia - and a planned commitment date of April 21st.

Since that point in time, Asamoah has received several new offers from the likes of Notre Dame, Colorado, and others. Between his new recruiting attention and a feeling that he may have been rushing the process to an extent, Asamoah has chosen to back off of that planned commitment date. He leads off the first segment of the video by discussing those new offers and his decision to delay the commitment.

Continue reading below the video for a time-stamped breakdown of Asamoah's interview and the points at which he discusses each school, as well as off-camera comments on schools like Notre Dame and Ohio State.

At the 1:47 mark, Asamoah begins discussing his top six, starting with his relationship with a DeSales alumni and Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell. Asamoah discusses UCLA at the 2:30 mark, a school far from home that represents some unique opportunities. At 3:29, Michigan is discussed and Asamoah describes how the Wolverines feel he could fill Jabrill Peppers' shoes. A family connection helps draw Asamoah to West Virginia, a school that he begins discussing at the 4:57 mark. Penn State feels that Asamoah could follow the pattern of Brandon Bell and he discusses his relationships with the Nittany Lions coaching staff at 5:44. Finally, Asamoah breaks down Pitt and how comfortable he's grown with Pat Narduzzi and Rob Harley beginning at the 6:45 mark.

In addition to his discussion of the top six, Asamoah added further comments on his new plans for a commitment date and what his criteria will be, beginning at the 8:27 mark. At the 9:25 mark, Asamoah details his upcoming visit plans, including return trips to Pitt and Penn State and his expected visits to rivals Michigan and Ohio State.

While technical difficulties unfortunately cut off discussion of Ohio State and Notre Dame, Asamoah was able to add his comments on both schools off-camera.

The Buckeyes have not yet offered Asamoah but have maintained consistent contact and will host him for a visit again this spring: “Ohio State’s coaches and I have been in contact almost every week. I’ve had the opportunity to build a better relationship with coach [Kevin] Wilson and coach [Bill] Davis. The potential to receive an offer from my hometown school leaves me in huge amount of excitement," Asamoah said.

Notre Dame was one of Asamoah's most recent offers and the Irish have recruited St. Francis DeSales for years. The new offer could find Notre Dame placing themselves in the mix: “It was such a blessing receiving an offer from the University of Notre Dame," Asamoah said. "It’s a very top tier program I'd love to be a part of. Everything is going well with their staff and I'm continuing to have a great relationship with coach [Michael] Elko and coach [Mike] Elston.”
