Training camp report: Day Two

The Pitt football team was back on the practice field for the second workout of training camp on Tuesday, and the coaches are probably glad to be done with the day's practice, since it was another shorts-and-jersey practice.
Per NCAA rules, Pitt worked in shorts-and-jerseys - no pads - on Monday and Tuesday, and the players will put on shoulder pads for Wednesday and Thursday before donning the full pads on Friday. Naturally, the coaching staff can't wait to get the pads on, but there is still value in these first two days of camp.

"We're here all day," redshirt senior Andrew Taglianetti said after Tuesday's practice. "We have walk-throughs, we have four or five hours of meeting, we're just in our books all the time; it gets to be second nature. I wish I could do that with my schoolwork, because I think I'd be an 'A' student.
"It's definitely tough with all of these installs, but with all the repetitions we're doing, it becomes second nature."
Head coach Paul Chryst acknowledged that these first two days have been "underwear football" - a reporter's words, not his - but it's clear that the lifelong football coach is enjoying the return to daily football practice.
"The great thing about camp is, we get to focus on football the whole time," head coach Paul Chryst. "Along with that, you have to stress them, I think, and force them to grow. It's pain that makes you grow; not that we want to inflict pain on these guys, but you have to stress them. You have to make them work, and I think that's how they grow."
