Pitt received its 23rd commitment of the 2017 recruiting class today with the pledge of senior defensive tackle Jaylen Twyman.

A 6-foot-2, 300-pound defensive tackle prospect from standout Washington (D.C.) program H.D. Woodson, Twyman has been a key priority for Pitt defensive line coach Tom Sims and head coach Pat Narduzzi for months.

Pitt received Twyman’s commitment over offers from several programs in Power Five conferences; his offer list included schools like South Carolina, Missouri, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan State, Tennessee, and several others, with the Gamecocks and Mizzou being Pitt’s competition at the end. The Rivals.com network rates Twyman as a three-star prospect and counts him as the 5th-best prospect to play in the nation’s capital. He also stands as one of the country’s top 50 defensive tackles in the 2017 class.

While Twyman may be the 23rd commitment overall in Pitt’s 2017 class, he is the second defensive tackle to pledge to join Tom Sims and the Panthers’ defensive line group, following JUCO tackle Kam Carter.

Twyman will be joined in the defensive line position group, however, by defensive ends Carson Van Lynn of Ohio and Deslin Alexandre of Florida.

Pitt received an official visit from Twyman on December 9th and despite a January 13th trip to South Carolina by the defensive tackle, the Panthers held a long lead throughout Twyman’s recruiting process. This will help to shore up the middle of their defensive line.
