Pitt has another defensive end for 2018, as Kaymar Mimes is official.

The backstory: Mimes saw his recruitment pick up over the course of his senior season at Long Branch, and in December he took an official visit to Rutgers. Feeling some pressure with the looming early signing period, Mimes committed to the Scarlet Knights but didn't sign. Around that time, Pitt started showing more interest, and since Mimes and his family were familiar with Pat Narduzzi from when Mimes' older brother, Shilique Calhoun, was recruited by Narduzzi to Michigan State, the relationship took off, leading to an official visit in January.

The commitment: Mimes apparently left his official visit without a public commitment, but a tweet from Narduzzi indicated that someone had committed. Later that week, Mimes finally made the public acknowledgment that he had chosen the Panthers over offers from Rutgers, Boston College, Wake Forest, Temple, UConn and more.

The impact: Defensive end has been a tricky position for Narduzzi and company to recruit at Pitt, for whatever reason. As such, the staff wanted multiple end recruits in the 2018 class, and Mimes joined John Morgan and Noah Palmer, who signed in December (although Palmer could end up playing tight end). Mimes is raw but has good potential after some time to develop.
