Pitt lands Tenn. DB Maynard

Pitt added another defensive back to the 2024 recruiting class this weekend in Smyrna (Tenn.) Stewarts Creek standout Nigel Maynard.

Maynard, a three-star prospect, picked Pitt over offers from Duke, Louisville, Michigan, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and West Virginia. He was in Pittsburgh this weekend for his official visit with the Panthers; his only other scheduled official visit was a trip to Michigan that was planned for two weeks from now.

In April, Maynard told Panther-Lair.com that Pitt, Michigan and West Virginia represented his top three schools, and he said at that time that the Panthers had a lot goin for them.

“I’ve always liked Pitt,” he said. “When I visited them this spring, that was my third time being there and I like it every time. The coaches have always showed a lot of love, the practices are intense and competitive and they’re a really tough team.”

At 6’0” and 170 pounds, Maynard will likely come to Pitt as a cornerback but could potentially play safety as well. He is the fourth defensive back to commit to Pitt in the class of 2024, joining Tayshawn Banks, Allen Bryant and Davion Pritchard.
