Pitt added a “big skill” player to its 2018 recruiting class on Saturday when Matt Alaimo committed to the Panthers.
Alaimo, a 6’3” 235-pound tight end prospect from Montvale (NJ) St. Joseph, picked Pitt over Power Five offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Duke, Illinois, Louisville, Minnesota, N.C. State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia. He visited the Panthers on Friday and told Panther-Lair.com that trip was “great.”
Last season, Alaimo was the leading receiver for the Green Knights, catching 25 passes for 371 yards and a touchdown. He was the top target for quarterback Nick Patti, who committed to Pitt this spring.
Alaimo is the latest addition to Pitt’s rebuilt tight end corps. The Panthers signed three tight ends last season and added a graduate transfer in Matt Flanagan, who comes to Pitt from Rutgers.
Pitt now has 10 commitments in the 2018 recruiting class, with Alaimo and Patti joining offensive linemen Blake Zubovic, Chase Brown and Jake Kradel, H-back Jay Symonds, defensive ends Noah Palmer and John Morgan, linebacker Wendell Davis and cornerback Judson Tallandier.
