Pitt lands a trio of recruits on Saturday

Pitt hosted nine official visitors from the class of 2014 and one unofficial visitor from the class of 2015 on Saturday, and by the end of the day, all 10 were committed to the Panthers.

Seven of the nine senior visitors were already committed prior to arriving for their official visits, so Paul Chryst and his staff were starting out ahead, but the two other 2014 recruits were significant pieces to finish the class.

Canton (Oh.) McKinley linebacker Jamal Davis was the first to pull the trigger, choosing Pitt over offers from Minnesota, Louisville, Indiana, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Kent State, Marshall, Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan.

"[I] love everything from the facilities to the players to the coaches," Davis told Rivals.com Midwest analyst Josh Helmholdt. "It just feels like home here, and [I] feel like I can make an impact here."

At 6'2" 217, Davis was an all-state performer in 2013, recording 105 tackles, 3.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and 21 tackles for loss, which nearly broke a McKinley record. He was the third linebacker to join Pitt's 2014 recruiting class, along with Fox Chapel's Quintin Wirginis and James Folston Jr. from Cocoa, Fla.

Chryst and company added another defensive recruit to the class later in the afternoon Saturday when Philadelphia Roman Catholic defensive end Hez Trahan made his expected commitment.

Trahan had offers from James Madison and Massachusetts. At 6'4" 250, he recorded seven sacks in 2013 and secured an offer from Pitt prior to his senior season.

"They have a great program," Trahan told Panther-Lair.com this week, "a great coaching staff, everything is stable, the players are close, it's good competition in the ACC, they had a great game when I was there and I had a great time and I just can't wait to get there and see it more."

Like Davis, Trahan was Pitt's third recruit for the class of 2014 at his position. The Panthers also have defensive end commitments from Cincinnati (Oh.) Reading's Shane Roy and Upper St. Clair's Rori Blair, who is already enrolled.

But Davis and Trahan weren't the only recruits to commit to Pitt on Saturday. In addition to the nine official visitors from the class of 2014, Canon-McMillan junior offensive lineman Alex Paulina was also on campus for an unofficial visit. And by the end of the visit, the 2015 lineman also pulled the trigger for Pitt.

Paulina had attracted a lot of interest from BCS schools, and Virginia Tech extended him a scholarship offer. The 6'3" 280-pound center prospect - who has played offensive tackle, nose tackle and defensive end at Canon-Mac - also said that Penn State was showing a lot of interest.

Davis and Trahan put Pitt at 24 recruits for the class of 2014, which is most likely where the class will stay heading into Signing Day. Paulina is Pitt's first recruit in the class of 2015, marking the second year in a row that Pitt's first recruit has been an offensive lineman (Michigan guard Connor Hayes was Pitt's first commit in the class of 2014).
