Pitt is taking on Western Michigan in the first road game of the season. The Panthers are without starting quarterback Kedon Slovis, but will look to improve to 2-1 on the year with redshirt freshman Nate Yarnell leading the team.

First Quarter 7:34

Pitt 3, Western Michigan 0

UP - Ben Sauls 48 field goal

Pitt received the opening kickoff and took a conservative approach given that quarterback Nate Yarnell is making his first career start. Junior tailback Israel Abanikand rushed seven times for 21 yards in the opening drive. C'Bo Flemister added a 17 yard run himself. Yarnell was 1-of-1 on the opening possession with a 19 yard completion to Konata Mumpfield, but Pitt was unable to come up with a touchdown. Ben Sauls nailed a 48-yard field goal to give the Panthers the lead.

UP - Marquis Williams 22-yard interception return

After Pitt's second drive faltered, the Panthers were forced to punt. Western Michigan took the ball over at its own 24-yard line. On the first play of the drive, Pitt cornerback Marquis Williams jumped a pass and intercepted it and took it to the house. It was the second interception for Pitt on the season, with both going for touchdowns.

WM - Palmer Domshcke 32-yard field goal

Pitt forced a Western Michigan punt, but the ball hit off a Pitt blocked, which Western Michigan recovered. The play was reviewed for targeting, but no penalty was upheld. The Broncos took over at the Pitt 25-yard line, but were unable to move the ball and had to settle for a field goal. Through 11 plays, Western Michigan has totaled just 21 yards of offense.

Second Quarter

Pitt 13, Western Michigan 3 11:31

UP - Ben Sauls 23-yard field goal

Pitt took the ball at its own 21-yard line, and the Panthers opened up the play book on the first couple of plays after starting the game with a lot of running plays. Yarnell hit Jared Wayne for gains of 20 and 39 yards to move Pitt down the field to the red zone, but the Panthers sputtered there. Ben Sauls was called on for his second field goal of the game to put Pitt ahead by 10 points.

Pitt 13, Western Michigan 6 7:17

WM - Palmer 40-yard field goal

Following the Pitt field goal, Western Michigan answered and operated a 9-play 52-yard drive, but the Broncos had to settle for a field goal. The Pitt defense has limited Western Michigan to 58 yards of total offense through five offensive possessions so far. Jack Salopek, Western Michigan's first year starting quarterback, is 3-of-10 for 28 yards.

Third Quarter

Pitt 20, Western Michigan 6 1:30

UP - Israel Abanikanda 4-yard touchdown run

The Pitt defense seems to be in control of this one. Western Michigan has had two offensive possessions in the third quarter, and both have resulted in Erick Hallett interceptions. It is the second two-interception game of Hallett's career, after picking off two passes in the ACC Championship game last year. Pitt then engineered its best offensive possession of the game covering 80 yards on 7 plays in 4:09. Nate Yarnell connected with Gavin Bartholomew for a 37-yard gain, which set up an Abanikanda 4-yard touchdown run.

Pitt 20, Western Michigan 13 :23

WM - AJ Abbott 31 yard pass from Anthony Sambucci

Pitt's two-score lead was short-lived. Western Michigan covered 75 yards on three plays to answer Pitt's score almost immediately. The Broncos pulled out a trick play that saw wide receiver Anthony Sambucci toss a touchdown pass to AJ Abbott, who was uncovered. The Pitt offense likely needs another lengthy touchdown drive to respond.

Fourth Quarter

Pitt 27, Western Michigan 13 8:16

UP - Konata Mumpfield 6 yard pass from Nate Yarnell

The Pitt offense flexed its muscles after Western Michigan made it a one score game. The Panthers executed a 12-play 74-yard drive that took over seven minutes off the clock. Izzy Abanikanda carried the ball seven times on the possession. He was spelled by Vincent Davis, who ripped off a 21-yard run to put the Panthers on the red zone. From there, Nate Yarnell tossed his first career touchdown pass, a six-yard strike to Konata Mumpfield on first and goal. The score gives Pitt some breathing room heading into the final 8:16 in the contest.

Pitt 34, Western Michigan 13 3:03

UP - Daniel Carter 3 yard run

Pitt once again had a dominant offensive drive. The Panthers put together an 8-play 67-yard drive that was capped off by a Daniel Carter 3-yard touchdown run. The Panthers have 240 yards on the ground tonight.
