The Pitt coaches made a change at quarterback on this week's two-deep. Get the rundown on that and all of the changes to the latest depth chart.
- The most obvious change is that Pitt went with an "OR" at quarterback this week, which makes sense after the events of the Virginia Tech game. Ben DiNucci started that game and played the first quarter before freshman Kenny Pickett took over and played the rest of the game, completing 15-of-23 for 242 yards and an interception. The yardage was the second-highest single-game total for a Pitt player this season, following Max Browne's 410 yards against Rice.
Given that Pickett played 75% of the last game, the odds would seem to favor him getting the nod as the starter on Friday against Miami. But this week's practices will probably determine that, as well as any decisions on whether DiNucci gets snaps in the game.
- Elsewhere on the offense, Jaryd Jones-Smith and Brandon Hodges are "OR" starters at right tackle. That was the case last week as well, and for the last two games, Jones-Smith and Hodges have rotated, roughly on an "every two series" basis.
- Redshirt junior Mike Herndon continues to be listed as the backup at both guard positions, but in the last two games, he has played exclusively at defensive tackle.
- There were a few minor changes from last week's depth chart. Along the defensive line, Dewayne Hendrix and Rashad Weaver continue to be "OR" starters, which stems from Hendrix's uncertain health status over the last three games. He did not play against Virginia but worked off the bench behind Weaver against North Carolina.
At Virginia Tech on Saturday, Hendrix was back in the starting lineup, but Weaver still played extended snaps.
- At defensive tackle. Keyshon Camp and Amir Watts are now "OR" starters, where previously Camp had been listed as the lone starter. But Watts has started the last three games since Camp missed the win over Virginia due to injury.
- At Money linebacker, Chase Pine is now Elijah Zeise's backup after those two rotated in the Virginia Tech game. Pine played the most snaps of his career on Saturday and produced six tackles in the process.
- Pine replaces redshirt junior Jalen Williams on the two-deep at Money linebacker. Williams did not travel to Blacksburg.
- With Pine on the depth chart at Money linebacker, Elias Reynolds is now the lone listed backup to Saleem Brightwell at middle linebacker. That reflects what happened on Saturday, as Reynolds rotated with Brightwell and replaced him late in the game when Brightwell got hurt.
- At Star linebacker, the coaches removed Rimoni Dorsey, a walk-on safety who has been listed as a backup there all season, and put redshirt sophomore Anthony McKee in as the backup to Oluwaseun Idowu. That was McKee's first appearance on the two-deep this season.
