Pitt adds a third four-star as Poteat commits

Pitt added another four-star recruit to the fold on Wednesday when Harrisburg (Pa.) Bishop McDevitt running back Jameel Poteat committed to the Panthers.
Poteat, 5'11" 195, picked Pitt over a host of national offers, including USC, Florida, Notre Dame, Rutgers, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Tennessee, Cincinnati and Connecticut. He is ranked in the top 200 nationally, 15th among running backs, and fifth in the state of Pennsylvania.

As a sophomore in 2008, he rushed 197 times for 1,308 yards (6.6 yards per carry) and 15 touchdowns. He followed that with a 1,664-yard effort in 2009, averaging 6.2 yards per carry and scoring 24 touchdown runs. In those two years he also recorded a total of 50 receptions for 625 yards and six touchdowns.
Poteat is the latest in a line of Bishop McDevitt players to pick Pitt. Cornerback Aaron Berry came to Pitt from the class of 2006, and he was followed the next year by running back LeSean McCoy, who arrived at Pitt after a year at Milford Academy. Most recently, Pitt signed wide receiver Salath Williams in the class of 2010.
Poteat should also help with Pitt's recruitment of 2012 defensive end Noah Spence, the next in McDevitt's run of Division I players and a prospect who is already being considered one of the top recruits in Pennsylvania.
With Poteat on board, Pitt now has commitments from three four-star recruits in the class of 2011, as he joins fellow four-stars Bill Belton and Marquise Wright. Additionally, four-star defensive back Terrell Chestnut will announce his commitment on Thursday, and it is expected that he will also select Pitt.
Pitt also has commitments from linebackers Quinton Alston and Ben Kline, quarterback Gary Nova, receiver Justin Olack, offensive lineman Artie Rowell, cornerback Lafayette Pitts, and tight end Sam Collura. Running back Breon Allen has also given Pitt a commitment that is currently tentative until he takes an official visit this fall.
