Ohio three-star picks Pitt

Pitt added a defensive lineman to the recruiting class of 2017 on Wednesday when Worthington (Oh.) Kilbourne’s Carson Van Lynn committed to the Panthers.

Van Lynn picked Pitt over offers from Boston College, Indiana, Iowa State, Kentucky, Purdue, Rutgers, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Buffalo, Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan. Pitt offered Van Lynn earlier this month and projects the 6’6” 242-pound prospect as a defensive end.

With Van Lynn on board, Pitt’s 2017 recruiting class now stands at eight. He is the fourth defensive recruit in the class and the first defensive end.

In the 2016 class, Pitt took Patrick Jones, Rashad Weaver and Zack Gilbert at defensive end, but both Weaver and Gilbert could project at other positions, so the coaches will look to sign at least one more end - if not two more - in the class of 2017.
