Ohio CB Davion Pritchard commits to Pitt

The Pitt football coaches hosted its first big official visit weekend, and it proved to be a successful one. Pitt landed four commitments on Saturday, and today Davion Pritchard reveled himself as one of the four prospects who committed.

Pritchard is a 6'1" and 165-pound cornerback out of Youngstown. He is graded as a three-star prospect and stars for Austintown Fitch High School. Pitt offered Pritchard in May, but the contact with him extends beyond that. Pritchard visited Pitt last spring and also during the fall for a game, but his third visit came with a Pitt offer and he did not leave town without making a decision

Pritchard's main point of contact throughout his recruitment has been Pitt cornerbacks coach Archie Collins. The two have a long-standing relationship, which likely helped lead to a quick decision on his first official visit.

“He’s a good guy,” Pritchard told Panther-Lair.com two weeks ago.. “That’s someone I always talk to and he just a good guy. I don’t know, we’ve just got a good connection.”

Beyond just his connections with Collins, the Ohio native had a lot of positive things he liked about Pitt prior to visiting. The Panthers' practice setup with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Southside caught his eye in the past.

“I think it’s very unique how they practice at the same place as the Steelers and they’re literally next door to them,” Pritchard explained. “I think their environment is just nice, like even their games and practices they are always just great experiences and great vibes from all the players and the coaches as well.”

Pritchard selected Pitt over an offer sheet that included Boston College, Kentucky, Maryland, and a host of programs from the MAC. He is now the second cornerback in the class joining Allen Bryant, who also took and official visit and committed to the Panthers on Saturday.
