Looking at Pitt targets in the Rivals250

The first edition of the Rivals250 for the class of 2013 was released on Thursday, and while the list isn't overloaded with recruits in Pitt's traditional recruiting territories, there are a few prospects Paul Chryst will be targeting.

At the top of Pitt's board is Central Valley receiver Robert Foster. Ranked as the No. 26 overall prospect and the No. 4 receiver in the nation, Foster turned a breakout performance in the 2010 WPIAL Class AAA championship game into a breakout season in 2011.

The 6'3" 185-pound standout did it all for the Warriors this past season. He recorded 36 carries for 419 yards (11.6 yards per carry) and two touchdowns, while also catching 37 passes for 584 yards (15.8 yards per receptions) and 5 touchdowns. Foster also excelled on special teams and finished with a total of 11 touchdowns as a junior.

Pitt will want to add quality receivers in the class of 2013, and Foster is the top target on the board.

Foster isn't the top recruit in the state of Pennsylvania, though. Cedar Cliff tight end Adam Breneman checks in at No. 22 overall. Chryst wants to utilize the tight end position, and Breneman is the No. 1 tight end in the nation, but his path appears to be leading toward Penn State.

Checking in at No. 54 overall is North Allegheny offensive lineman Patrick Kugler. Chryst and offensive coordinator Bob Bostad will try to use their history of success with offensive linemen as they try to add the four-star guard prospect to the Panthers.

Pennsylvania placed one more recruit in the Rivals250. Philadelphia West Catholic running back David Williams checks in at No. 192 overall and among the top 20 running backs in the nation. Williams rushed for 1,484 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2011, and he had Pitt as an early favorite. But the addition of 2012 four-star back Rushel Shell to the Panthers' roster has made Pittsburgh a less attractive destination for Williams.

Pennsylvania's neighbor to the west has its regular share of top prospects. 15 recruits in the class of 2013 from Ohio are ranked in the Rivals250, including five in the top 100. Naturally those recruits will be top priorities for Ohio State, Michigan, and the rest of the Big Ten, but Pitt has a couple interesting angles to work.

Defensive back Cameron Burrows (No. 7 overall) and linebacker Mike McCray (No. 44 overall) are both at Trotwood-Madison, and Pitt has signed a Trotwood-Madison prospect in each of the last two classes (although Burrows has already committed to Ohio State). Defensive tackle Billy Price (No. 130 overall) plays at Austintown Fitch, which sent Chris Davis and Demitrious Davis to Pitt in this year's recruiting class.

To the east, New Jersey has five prospects in the Rivals250 and Delaware has two. Maryland only has three 2013 prospects in the Rivals250.
