Justin Johnson, 2018 OG, talks Pitt offer, visit

2018 offensive guard Justin Johnson of Philadelphia (Pa.) visited Pitt for their game against Penn State and walked away with a scholarship in hand. He discusses the offer and everything about his visit.

Philadelphia (Pa.) Imhotep Charter School has been a major talent factory over the past couple seasons and that shouldn’t be changing any time soon with 2018 prospects like offensive guard Justin Johnson coming up. Johnson has already collected offers from Texas Tech, UMass, and San Diego State at this point in the process and on Saturday, Pitt joined his scholarship list when he visited campus for their game against Penn State. Johnson was excited to receive the offer from Pitt, which he received personally from head coach Pat Narduzzi.

“My reaction was ecstatic. Me and Coach Narduzzi were having a sit down in his stadium office and he was just speaking to me generally about the program and how things are with me,” Johnson said. “After the conversation we had he explained that: ‘We most definitely want you at Pitt, that's why you're receiving a scholarship/offer to come here.’ Then he shook my hand and he went out to speak to the team before they walked out for pregame.”

Johnson is still building strong relationships at Pitt with the coaches at this early stage in his recruiting process, but since the coaches have been able to make open contact with him beginning on September 1st, he’s grown close with the Pitt coaching staff. His recruitment remains an open one, however, and he’s not looking to make any early decisions.

“My relationship with Coach John Peterson, Coach Tom Sims, and Coach Landen Salem are all mutually strong. They're great coaches. Every time I speak with them it's all pure love from them and I appreciate that. I'm interested in Pitt and I'm also interested in all the other schools that have offer me a scholarship,” Johnson explained. “Each school I'm hearing from has something to offer that each other school doesn't and I'm interested in all of them to the fullest.”

The results of the game were clearly something that impressed Johnson as well. He was impressed with Pitt’s performance over their in-state rival and the way that his potential future position group, the offensive line, played on the field.

“It was a major achievement and come up, I'd say. It was a great plus for the Pitt program to defeat Penn State and that all that matters. The offensive linemen did what was expected of them. Block to the whistle, open up holes and dominate constantly up front,” Johnson said. “The coaching looked as it should, interactive and supportive but demanding to bring your all.”

Johnson is a class of 2018 prospect and currently checks in at 6-foot-7 and 342 pounds. You can view his sophomore highlights below:
