First appearance as a recruit: David Green eventually collected offers from the likes of Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Syracuse, Minnesota, Iowa State, and several Group of Five programs. However, his recruitment and appearance on the Rivals radar began in the spring of his sophomore year with two early scholarships. West Virginia emerged early as the primary team in his recruitment, offering in May of his sophomore year and continuing to build strong relationships over the next year with Green. Programs like Pitt and Notre Dame started to show interest in Green as his junior year progressed, but it wasn't until February of 2017 that the local program offered Green.

Green commits to Pitt: After Pitt offered Green during a junior day visit in February, they immediately became the most notable team in the recruitment of the Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic product, who plays just down the street. Green built relationships with new Pitt defensive line coach Charlie Partridge through the spring and also spent time with Partridge during a visit to Pitt's June prospect camp. In early August, Green informed Panther-Lair.com of plans to commit on August 24th with a choice coming between six finalists: Pitt, Virginia Tech, Minnesota, Rutgers, Iowa State, and Temple. It goes without saying that the local team received good news during Green's decision.

In his words: “It’s the hometown school and they’re on to something. They’re on their way up, going for the BCS bowl games and all that," Green said. "I’ll feel great at Pitt with coach Partridge and all he has to bring to the table… Just know that by choosing Pitt, I’m 100-percent dedicated to Pitt. I’m going to give every ounce of sweat to them.”

Green's Impact: "Pitt is bringing in a gifted pass-rusher who can help generate much more pressure on the quarterback in four-man pass rushes. The ability to rush throws without putting linebackers into the blitz will greatly improve Pitt's struggling pass defense, especially on later downs with longer distances to go."
