How Pitt landed its latest commit

When Khameron Davis committed to Pitt on Thursday afternoon, you could say that it came out of left field.

Not only did Davis' name not come up with Pitt's targets at all, but his name rarely came up for much at all. But now he's on his way to being a Panther, and he spoke to Panther-Lair.com about how he ended up where he is.

"So my story is definitely a little different," Davis said Thursday night. "I played for my high school for three years in Colorado. It was great and I was playing well, but I didn't get a lot of exposure. So I decided to spend my senior year in Kansas for better competition and exposure. It definitely worked, but then I did a post-grad year at a place called Forest Trail in North Carolina."

The 6'4" 190-pound guard with an incredible wingspan still wasn't hearing from many high-major schools after the post-grad year. In fact, it was basically Texas Tech, Charleston Southern and Tennessee Tech showing interest before Pitt came calling.

But, as they say, it only takes one.

"Pitt first reached out to me after my season," Davis said. "They were real consistent and I got to speak to all of them. It was really a group effort overall. They told me that they liked my film and wanted me to joint their program.

"Once they offered, I just knew it was the right situation for me. It truly is a blessing, and it feels so good to be a Panther."

Davis should contribute on the defensive end right away. There is still a lot of room for growth offensively, but he is long and athletic on the perimeter.

There have been plenty of guards without much fanfare in high school who succeeded in a big way, and Davis is hoping to make a name for himself in a similar manner.

"A lot of people don't know about me, and that is fine," he said. "I'm just going to let God keep leading me and working hard. I love this game so much and feel like I can still get so much better. So a lot of people say it is a relief after they commit, but this is just the beginning for me."

Davis is all set academically and plans on attending Pitt's first summer session that starts May 15th.

"I just want Pitt fans to know that I am going to give my all every single day," Davis said. "I am loyal and love this game, so I will give everything I have to it.

"I want to win for these coaches and fans more than anything. They have given me a chance and I just want to win for them."
