2018 Fairfield (Ohio) four-star Malik Vann has emerged early on to contend for a spot as one of Ohio’s best defensive prospects in his class. The 6-foot-3, 248-pound hybrid linebacker and defensive end has already garnered offers from Notre Dame, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, Oregon, Kentucky, and more. Vann’s combination of an imposing physical presence and agility has lent itself to playing in space at the high school level, but it could lead to a shift down to defensive end as he adds weight in a college strength and conditioning program.

“I have no idea between linebacker and defensive end. I guess when I get up there, they’ll tell me what I play, it doesn’t matter to me. I’m working on my hands and learning how to better rush the passer so that I can fully make the transition to defensive line if I have to,” Vann explained.

Regardless of where he fits in a defensive scheme a few years from now, Vann has already been heavily pursued by recruiters and college coaches from coast to coast. In addition to the small sampling of his offers listed above, Vann has heard from programs like Ohio State, Clemson, USC, and UCLA and hopes to pick up more offers soon. He’s also beginning the process of planning visits to some of the programs on his list.
