Bethlehem (Pa.) Liberty standout Darian Street became Pitt’s first wide receiver commit of the 2017 class when he pulled the trigger for the Panthers in early June. Street will be following his older brother’s legacy – Devin Street finished his career at Pitt as the school’s career leader in receptions and has gone on to an NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys that’s at three seasons and counting.
The younger Street’s offer list was not necessarily a robust one, as he picked Pitt over Army, Connecticut, and Kent State, among others, but Pitt’s coaching staff is excited about the 6-foot-2, 170-pound legacy recruit. Street’s production did not quite meet his potential due to the offense he plays in at Liberty, which is a run-based attack. Street still managed to grab 29 receptions for 333 yards and six touchdowns and those numbers are sure to increase with talent graduating from last season.
So what makes the Pitt coaching staff and many fans excited about Street’s potential? He has the look of a receiver who’s quickly developing into a well-rounded, refined pass-catcher with the tools to be productive at the college level. Street has clearly learned well from his older brother and from the coaching he’s received and is one of the more technically sound receiver in this class.
