Enos getting used to college football

It takes time to get used to transitioning from high school to college for anyone. For a Division-1 athlete, that change can be more drastic and could be multi-faceted. Terrence Enos is a 2021 Pitt signee out of Cass Tech High School in Detroit and after enrolling at Pitt last month, he’s getting used to those changes in real time.

Enos was a three-star prospect according to Rivals.com. He chose Pitt over an offer sheet that was over 20 schools. The Detroit standout was a coveted recruit that was high on Pitt’s wish list, and now he’s making the move from being a priority prospect to a member of the team, which can cause a change in the relationship with the coaching staff.

“I would say it’s been smooth,” Enos said going from a recruit to a player. “I just knew that it would change, obviously they’re going to get harder on me now because I’m here so it’s not the recruiting stage anymore because I’m already here. So obviously I knew it was going to get harder for me. Like I said just getting used to everything, so I feel like I’ll be fine.”

Like most freshmen in a college setting, the speed of everything picks up and for Enos that is no different. As he is going through his first couple of weeks in Pittsburgh, he’s getting used to the speed of football and life outside of it.

“It’s a lot faster than high school, that’s one thing I got to get used to just even like off the field just being on time everywhere,” he explained. “I would say the pace, I just got to keep up with that.”

For Enos, he saw a comfort level at Pitt and that is making these changes a lot more manageable. During the recruiting process, he built a strong relationship with Pitt assistant Archie Collins, a fellow Detroit native and Cass Tech alum. He also has some family in the area just down the road in Monroeville.

Top to bottom, Pitt is where he felt most comfortable.

“It just made it a perfect fit where I can have family around if I need anything or just things like that, and the education too,” Enos said of why he chose Pitt. "I feel like Pitt was one of the better schools on the education side too.”

Any incoming freshmen entering the world of college football may be asked to alter how they did things in high school. For offensive linemen, those asks can sometimes be greater. They can be asked to change their body type and position, and both of those things have happened for Enos already.

At Cass Tech, Enos lined up at tackle, but early on he said he has been working at guard. He also came to Pitt weighing in at 325-pounds, but it hoping to get down to 310-315.

Perhaps one of the most unique aspects that freshman are facing can only be said for the class of 2021. With the NCAA granting an extra year of eligibility to everyone last year, there are a few more players around the building. The class of 2021 could start lower on the depth chart than usual, but Enos isn’t discouraged by the added depth.

“We just got to work harder, that’s really about it,” he explained. “We just got to put our best foot forward in any situation and just go to work.”
