Bethlehem (Pa.) wide receiver Darian Street has been committed to Pitt for long enough that it’s felt like he’s already apart of the team at times. The legacy recruit has spent many weekends watching Pitt play and made the trip multiple times on his own dime, but was able to finally take his official visit this weekend. Despite his familiarity with the program, it was a new experience for Street.

“This is my first time actually getting to go out and see more of campus and things at Pitt. It was really good, I had a great time on the official. I wish I could do it all over again already,” Street said.

More than just a chance to see campus from a player’s perspective, Street had the opportunity to bond alongside some future teammates and some players that he’d like to make future teammates. 12 recruits made official visits over the weekend, seven of them committed to Pitt and five of them up for grabs.

“It was really great when we (Pitt’s 2017 commits and the weekend’s official visitors) were all together at night and just hanging out,” Street said. “We were all bonding together and having a good time. Some of the uncommitted guys, we definitely have a good shot at them, so it should be pretty good for these next few weeks.”

The official visitors for the weekend were Rivals250 defensive end TyJuan Garbutt, four-star Virginia Tech linebacker commit Nathan Proctor, Maryland defensive end commit Kofi Wardlow, standout Maryland lineman Victor Dimukeje, and Pitt’s top cornerback target, Jason Pinnock. Street feels strong about Pitt’s chances to close on that group.

“All of the commits are really on them,” Street said. “They seemed to like Pitt a lot. I think Nate [Proctor] could flip, I think TyJuan [Garbutt] loved it, and Jason [Pinnock] definitely loved it. I think that we have a really good shot at all of them honestly.”

Street also had the opportunity to meet with Pitt’s coaching staff while he was on campus and talk about what’s left in terms of his preparation for enrolling in June. College is just around the corner and he’ll be getting ready to compete for early playing time as the summer approaches.

“I was with coach Sherman basically the whole weekend. We sat in the meeting room and watching film and talking ball and stuff. I think he really likes me and I’m picking things up. I think I have a good shot of coming in and playing if I come to camp and do my job,” Street explained. “I also had a meeting with coach Narduzzi and my family and he’s excited for me to get out there. He was talking about his vision for me and things I need to be prepared for to come in and have a chance to play my freshman year.”

Stay tuned for more updates throughout the big official visit weekend for Pitt as it draws to a close and prospects return home.
