Abouraya on Pitt commitment: 'It felt natural'

Adham Abouraya announced his commitment to Pitt earlier today, but really it was something he had been wanting to do for some time now. The 6’5” and 285-pound offensive line prospect in the class of 2024 visited Pitt back in January for a junior day and really he wanted to commit back then.

“My dad and I talked and felt it would be a little bit smarter to think about it instead of just making a decision,” Abouraya told Panther-Lair.com. “but I’ve been wanting to commit since like January and beginning of February.”

Abouraya made a third trip to Pittsburgh earlier this month and felt a connection with the program. He had additional offers from the likes of Cincinnati, Maryland, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, and West Virginia, but nothing like his bond with Pitt.

“I think in my personal opinion out of all the schools I was talking to, Pitt was just my favorite one,” he explained. “It felt natural from the beginning.”

Pitt has been on a recent roll on the recruiting trail and Adbouraya became the 10th commitment of Pitt’s 2024 recruiting class. He was also the sixth player in the month of March to pledge to the Panthers. This recent surge has bolstered Pitt’s recruiting ranking, and it was certainly something the newest commit took notice of before deciding.

“I looked at everything and I was really happy to see all these commits coming,” Abouraya explained. “Everything was looking good so I was just like, ‘All right, I want to be a part of it.’”

Abouraya told Pitt assistant coach Cory Sanders the news first. The Pitt safeties coach had been his main recruiter from the beginning and when Abouryada told him, it happened to be Sanders’ birthday and he was excited to hear the news.

“He texted me and was like, ‘We have nine commits right now and hopefully you can be the tenth,’” Abouraya recounted from his commitment. “I read the next and I didn’t respond for like an hour or two, but then I thought about and responded, ‘You’ve got your ten right here.’”

Abouraya is now the fifth player from the state of Pennsylvania in the class of 2024, and the overall class has vaulted up the rankings. Following the commitment of Abouraya, Pitt now holds the 8th ranked recruiting class in the country according to Rivals.com
