It’s early to see sophomores already gaining significant recruiting attention, but that’s been the case for 2019 wide receiver Rahmon Hart Jr. of Plum (Pa.). Hart, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound receiver who posted 25 catches for 545 yards and six touchdowns in his sophomore season, has already been offered by Temple and has begun to see interest from some of the region’s top programs.

“I’ve been hearing from Pitt a lot and also Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Penn State, schools like that,” Hart said. “I have an offer from Temple. Next month, I’m going to a basketball game at Michigan State.”

Hart has also visited schools like Pitt, Notre Dame, Kentucky, and Temple throughout the season. The big-bodied receiver was at Pitt’s game against Penn State in Heinz Field, which continued a relationship that he’s been building with coaches and staffers at Pitt for some time.

“The coaches at Pitt keep in touch a lot and I like their receivers coach, coach Kevin Sherman,” Hart said. “I think he’s a good receivers coach and he helped me a lot with instructing me. It would mean a lot to have an offer from Pitt because it’s the hometown college.”

Hart’s attention in the recruiting realm began during the offseason prior to his sophomore year, but as his performances have continued to improve, his recruitment has continued to gain steam. It was a tough season for Plum as a football community with the tragic loss of assistant coach Lorenzo Freeman, but Hart and his teammates fought through the obstacles they faced.

“We went through a lot of adversity. We lost an assistant coach, our starting quarterback tore his rotator cuff, and stuff like that. But we overcame it as a group,” Hart said. “I think I just made the best out of things. We had a freshman quarterback, but we all still competed well and I feel like I had good stats. Working with 2/10ths and Evolves in the offseason helps me run my routes better, it helps with catching passes, and stuff like that. It’s competition too. We play some of the best teams in the nation.”

Hart is expected to be one of the top players in the region for the 2019 class early on. Players like Marlin Devonshire Jr., Corey Thomas Jr., Jayvon Thrift, Jake Stebbins, Logan Clark, Kyi Wright, and many others are going to have their hat in the ring for the top spot in the class locally, but Hart is certainly one of the key contenders to watch.
