Pitt is in the process of offering several 2018 prospects throughout the state and region and Mechanicsburg (Pa.) product Charlie Katshir joined that list recently. Katshir, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect from the Harrisburg area, added Pitt to a list of scholarships that includes schools like Penn State, West Virginia, Rutgers, and more.

“It felt good to get the offer, just growing up in Pennsylvania and being a PA kid. I’m pretty familiar with the Pittsburgh area and my dad grew up in Pittsburgh, so I’ve pretty much called that a second home," Katshir said. "I’ve been out there a lot to see my grandparents and cousins.”

Katshir previously made his first visit of the process to Pitt during the fall, taking in the Panthers' home game against Penn State in Heinz Field. The game resulted in a 42-39 victory for Pitt and was one of the key moments in building Katshir's relationship with Pitt. Since then, he's continued to talk and bond with Pitt receivers coach and Harrisburg area recruiter Kevin Sherman.

“I’ve been talking to coach Sherman a little bit here and there, just catching up and seeing how things are going. I think it’s a pretty good relationship, I’ve talked to him for a while now," Katshir explained.

With a swelling offer list that continues to grow, Katshir has seen increased interest from several new Power Five programs, including a pair of in-conference opponents for Pitt.

“I’ve been talking with Virginia Tech lately and Duke and Michigan State are coming into the school. I’ve been messaging with one of the coaches from Indiana as well," Katshir said.

It has been a common theme in discussions of Katshir's recruitment that Penn State is expected to be the heavy favorite. Katshir's best friend and frequent traveling partner, Rivals100 tight end Zack Kuntz, is already committed to the Nittany Lions and many have expected Katshir to join him at some point. While he denies that his mind is already made up, Penn State is certainly expected to factor heavily in the recruitment.

“I’ve definitely heard that a couple place, but I haven’t committed or anything like that yet. I’m guessing it’s just kind of hopeful, because I haven’t said anything. It’s going pretty well with them though," Katshir said. "Coach Pry is coming by my school, so we’ve just been building a relationship and seeing how things are going.”

Unfortunately, Katshir's offseason plans for recruiting and workouts are going to be put on hold for a period of time. The standout linebacker suffered several shoulder dislocations throughout the last year, dating back to the spring of his sophomore year, and is getting surgery shortly to fix things up.

“In the offseason, I’ve just been working on getting stronger and faster for next season. But I’m actually going to be getting surgery on February 6th for a torn labrum and a couple other ligaments in my shoulder," Katshir said. I dislocated my shoulder three times this season, but it happens. I’m taking care of it now so it doesn’t become a problem down the road.

“I’m probably going to make a few visits this spring, but I’m going to see how my shoulder feels and how that goes. I’m not really sure where I’ll visit yet though.”

Katshir should stand to be one of the top 2018 prospects in the state of Pennsylvania and part of an impressive linebacker crop in the Keystone State. Stay tuned for more details on his recruitment.
