2018 Ohio ATH Brian AsaMoah discusses Pitt offer, visit

2018 Columbus (Ohio) St. Francis DeSales athlete Brian AsaMoah was offered by Pitt on Saturday evening while he visited for the Panthers' game against Marshall. Check out his comments on the offer and his visit:

Columbus (Ohio) has been an area that the Pitt coaching staff has tried to break into in recruiting under head coach Pat Narduzzi. That effort continued on Saturday as the Panthers offered 2018 St. Francis DeSales athlete Brian AsaMoah. AsaMoah has impressed at both linebacker and running back for his team and his hard work paid off in a big way with the Pitt offer – his first scholarship from a Power Five program.

“I thought it was really great to get an offer from coach Pat Narduzzi and the Pitt staff. It’s always great to be around a team that wants you to be a part of them and to play for them,” AsaMoah said. “I’d heard a bit from them before the visit so it was really nice.”

The Pitt coaching staff is already very familiar with DeSales, which also produced notable Pitt defensive tackle target Derrius Mullins, an Indiana commit. DeSales has churned out Division I talent over the years and continues to do so. Even among that atmosphere, AsaMoah has managed to stand out from his teammates. As noted above, the prep star plays both ways for the Stallions, but he seems destined for outside linebacker at the next level.

“Coach Narduzzi told me that I can do great things with the ball in my hands and then he asked me what position I wanted to play in college. I said to him that defense wins championships, kind of indicating that I want to play defense in college,” AsaMoah explained. “Defense is great and I love just stopping offenses and stopping any of their momentum or motivation. I feel like I bring so much energy to the table. I like to get my team hyped and get those things down. You can’t have a great defense without enthusiasm and energy. It’s critical.”

AsaMoah’s college attention has really started to pick up as of late. While Eastern Kentucky is the only school to offer him to date besides Pitt, Louisville, Purdue, West Virginia, Iowa State, Miami (Ohio), and many others are recruiting the 6-foot-1, 205-pound junior. Pitt is working to continue to build relationships with AsaMoah – a process he says is going well.

“I’ve just been in touch with coach Rob Harley, coach Salem, and coach Kabala. Those coaches treated me really well [on the visit]. It’s always great to build relationships with college coaches and I just feel like family already with the Panthers,” AsaMoah said.

AsaMoah’s offer from Pitt, as well as those burgeoning relationships with the Panthers staff, have lent themselves to a very strong first impression of the school and program. While it’s early in his process, AsaMoah’s interest in Pitt is very high and he seemed blown away by the visit.

“The game day experience was unreal. Playing in that big NFL stadium like Heinz Field and sharing it with the Steelers is ridiculous. I think that’s really awesome,” AsaMoah said. “Pitt seems like a really nice place to play at. I’m extremely interested in Pitt, I really like it there. My interest level is pretty high.”

Pitt will certainly not be AsaMoah’s last offer and he’ll continue to improve as a player and pick up more attention as a recruit. The early attention for the central Ohio standout is a huge boost and you can continue to check in on his progress on Panther-Lair.com.
