Big WR could be one of 08's best
DeAndre Brown figures to be one of the top prospects in Mississippi in the class of 2008.HATTIESBURG, Miss.- Wide receiver
On March 18, he attended the Rivals.com Junior Day in Hattiesburg, Miss., and gave Rivals.com an exclusive interview about his experience at the event, his sophomore season, which programs are on his early radar and which school is his childhood favorite.
His sophomore season, Brown, who measured at 6-foot-5 1/2, 200 pounds, had 36 receptions for 700 yards and seven touchdowns and led the Mississippi Gulf Coast in receiving.
"I am a humble player that is ready to learn," Brown said. "I am well-respected and all of that."
He helped lead his high school team, which included LSU tight end recruit Richard Dickson, to the state playoffs and hopes to do the same this year.
"Hopefully, we'll make it back," he said. "I am going to do everything I can to help us get there."
Several schools have been showing early attention to the big target.
"LSU, Michigan, Ole Miss, West Virginia, Mississippi State," he said. "Schools like that."
There is one program that he grew up pulling for and what he would call his favorite at the moment.
"Florida State," he said. "I like coach Bobby Bowden. I like his winning tradition and the players have had a lot of NFL experience and have had a lot of success in the NFL."
As far as some of his criteria for choosing a program, Brown hasn't thought that far ahead yet.
"I don't know really," he said. "That will come in two years, you know."
On March 18, he sat through the hour-long presentation by coach Joe Hornback about the recruiting process.
"I learned about college and getting ready, getting my grades right and participating in summer activities," he said.
Brown also plays basketball and runs the 200-meter dash for his school's track and field team. He claims a 36-inch vertical leap and plans to attend the Baton Rouge NIKE Camp April 29 on the campus of Louisiana State University.
