CaliFlorida Bowl 7: Florida roster
The seventh edition of the CaliFlorida Bowl, an all-star game pitting the best of California versus the best of Florida, will be played at Cal-State Fullerton on December 31st at 3pm.
With the game just one week away, today Student Sports takes a first look at the final Florida roster, which was released today by Air 7 Sports, the producers of the CaliFlorida Bowl.
This year's Florida roster is highlighted by a record-setting quarterback, a gamebreaking running back, tremendous speed and athleticism in the secondary and a massive offensive line.
The offensive coordinator of the Florida team will be Nease head coach Craig Howard, and Howard should have no problem installing his spread attack with Nease QB Tim Tebow, a 2005 EA SPORTS Elite 11 selection, at the helm. With Tebow and also super-athletic Jarred Fayson taking snaps for the Sunshine State squad, the California defense will have to prepare for mobile quarterbacks that can attack both through the air and on the ground.
When Florida does go on the ground, things should be great with a massive offensive line led by Tampa Jefferson's Daron Rose leading the way. Rose, a top 100 player nationally, will be joined by a pair of South Carolina commits, a St. Thomas Aquinas standout and Florid pledge Jim Barrie on what should be a massive and dominating offensive line.
That line will block for one of the nation's most heavily pursued running back prospects, speedy C.J. Spiller out of Union County High.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Florida team will feature a lot of speed up front and in the linebacking core, but a secondary highlighted by four and possibly even five lockdown cover cornerbacks should be a strength.
Miami commit Ryan Hill is one of the top-ranked cornerbacks in the land and another Tallahassee product, Marcus Udell isn't far behind. Add in Florida verbal Jacques Rickerson, Chavez Grant out of Booker T. Washington and the speedy Patrick Robinson from South Florida, who will play both wide receiver and defensive back, and the Florida defense should be able to counter a speedy California receiver unit.
FLORIDA ALL-STAR ROSTER
Note: Since this is an all-star game, the players were allowed to select their own numbers and that is why there are so many double numbers on the roster.
