Two months ago, Rivals250 defensive tackle Corey Hobbs publicly committed to the Gators on Father's Day. Last Wednesday, InsidetheGators.net spent the day at Oviedo (Fla.) high school for an up-close, in-depth look at the 6-foot-5, 305 pound 4-star prospect. We came away with weight room and practice footage as well as an interview.

Weight-room: Coach Register plays an audio tape from the soundtrack of Good Morning Vietnam.

This is where Hobbs' real personality shines through. As one of the team leaders, he is serious about the workout, but he's also keenly aware that this is a time for teammates to bond. At times he can be seen dancing around to the music while interacting with the team.

Interview: This being my first attempt at a video interview, I was worried that with the camera, Hobbs might be nervous, but instead he came across very well.

Practice: For our purposes, we picked a bad day to visit Oviedo. Register had this set as a day to concentrate on offense, meaning we got to see the defense do very little.

The one thing that really caught our attention was the pass-rush drills. The defensive lineman had 4 seconds to get by the offensive lineman to touch the towel - aka, get the sack.

While most battles were a toss-up, when the defensive linemen did win, it was usually in 3 1/2 to 4 seconds. Each time for Hobbs was in the 2 second range as he drove his opponent back with ease.

The family: Mrs. Hobbs showed up near the end of my stay. It's easy to see why Corey turned out the way he did after speaking with her for several minutes.

Corey's family is obviously proud of his accomplishments both on and off the field.

His written offer from Urban Meyer (Click on the photo to enlarge it) is framed and hanging in his father's office.

Speaking of his father, Mr. Hobbs played football for two years at North Carolina. Even at age 51, his playing days may not be over. There may actually be a father/son tandem at Florida next fall as Meyer has offered Randy Hobbs a scholarship to play for the University of Florida (Click on the photo to enlarge it) there are of course two conditions. First he must lose 100 pounds and second he must shave several seconds off of his forty time.
