Chapman enters guilty plea

Tra'Von Chapman's future with the Pitt football program is in question after the freshman quarterback pled guilty on charges of attempted assault Monday afternoon.

According to the Record-Courier, Chapman entered his plea in the Portage County Municipal Court in Kent, Ohio, on Monday. He was originally charged on April 30 with assault and unlawful restraint - both misdemeanors - following an incident with a woman on April 26.

Following his guilty plea, Chapman will serve three days at the Portage County Jail and perform 20 hours of community service, the Record-Courier reported.

Chapman has been indefinitely suspended since the charges were filed in April. He signed with Pitt as a four-star quarterback recruit in the class of 2012 and enrolled in January. Pitt head coach Paul Chryst was not available for comment early Monday evening as he traveled from Connecticut where he was visiting ESPN studios.

Earlier this summer Pitt dismissed safety Eric Williams and tight end Drew Carswell after both were charged with various drug-related offenses. The charges were later dropped.
