Pitt releases its first official two-deep

With the season opener against Youngstown State lurking just six days away, Pitt released its first official depth chart of the 2012 season Monday.

Overall, there weren't many surprises on the official two-deep, as the coaches generally followed the personnel groupings they used throughout training camp. Tino Sunseri is Pitt's starting quarterback, and sophomore Trey Anderson is listed as his backup, although the coaches may opt to turn to freshman Chad Voytik if an in-game emergency presents itself.

Senior Ray Graham is the listed starter at running back despite still recovering from an ACL injury. Sophomore Isaac Bennett is Graham's backup, and freshman Rushel Shell is the third back, so he will probably see the field.

Another freshman made the offensive two-deep in left tackle Adam Bisnowaty, who is listed as the backup behind redshirt junior Cory King. Freshman guard Gabe Roberts looked in camp like a probable two-deep player, but the listed reserve guards are upperclassmen Arthur Doakes and Shane Johnson.

The starting defensive line looks like it did at the end of training camp, with ends T.J. Clemmings and Jack Lippert and tackles Aaron Donald and Tyrone Ezell.

At linebacker, Shane Gordon (middle) and Eric Williams (strong-side) have had starting jobs locked up since the beginning of camp, but redshirt freshman Nicholas Grigsby appears to have held off redshirt senior Manny Williams for the first-team weak-side linebacker spot.

Three of the four secondary spots were more or less constant throughout training camp, with K'Waun Williams and Lafayette Pitts at cornerback and Ray Vinopal at strong safety. For the other safety position, the coaches listed redshirt seniors Andrew Taglianetti ad Jarred Holley as co-starters.

Overall, the two-deep features four true freshmen, four redshirt freshmen, four sophomores, 10 redshirt sophomores, two juniors, 11 redshirt juniors, one true senior, and 12 redshirt seniors.
