Defense has the edge in second scrimmage
With the 2012 season opener lurking just two weeks away, the Pitt football team is almost ready to segue from training camp into game preparation. The players even moved out of Sutherland Hall - their August residence - on Saturday, further signaling the transition.
Before training camp ends, though, the Panthers held their second scrimmage on Saturday, running almost 130 plays, which was actually a drop from last week's scrimmage when the coaches ran more than 180 snaps in the three-hour practice.
Saturday's scrimmage actually represented an adjustment, as the coaches ended practice about 45 minutes earlier than scheduled. For two full weeks, Paul Chryst and company have pushed the players with three-hour practices, extended live periods, and relentless work. That was the theme in the first two hours of Saturday's practice, too, as the coaches demanded high energy and detailed performances. But they did cut things short, which had to be a welcome change for the players.
Of course, the coaches pushed the players on the 129 reps Saturday. Here's a rundown on the scrimmage.
