Fayetteville pair discuss UA offer

The Arkansas Razorbacks offered two more Class of 2013 instate recruits Wednesday in Fayetteville quarterback Austin Allen and linebacker Brooks Ellis.

Allen, 6-1 1/2, 210, 4.77, and Ellis, 6-2, 215, 4.63, helped lead Fayetteville to the 7A State Championship last season. Allen completed 270 of 420 pass attempts (64.3 percent)for 4,150 yards, 46 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also had 300 rushing yards to go with 6 rushing touchdowns.

"It's an honor to be offered by Arkansas. It was my goal ever since I was a little kid," Allen said. "Getting an offer from the top university in the state and most of the country is an honor.

"Best way to finish out the season in my eyes. Got the state championship, beat the number eighteenth ranked team in the nation. No one said we could do it, and we proved them wrong. Great end to the season. Next season, hopefully reload and be back in Little Rock."

Ellis was named Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Defensive Player of the Year after his great junior campaign.

"It was definitely a goal of mine. It's a great honor. There's so many great defensive players not only around the state but on my team," Ellis said. "It was amazing what we did, and I'm just so excited about it. It's crazy being able to pull it off."

Allen is the younger brother of Razorback redshirt freshman quarterback Brandon Allen and the son of Razorback cornerbacks coach Bobby Allen. Out of high school, Brandon was rated the No. 5 pro-style quarterback prospect in the country by Rivals.com. Austin also has other options.

"Arkansas State offered me today, North Carolina's supposed to offer later this week, and Ole Miss offered. South Florida really liked my tape, and Oklahoma State a little bit. I went to their junior day the other weekend, and it was nice," Allen said.

Will he join his brother and father at Arkansas?

"I'm going to wait out the process a little bit, see other schools and make my decision after that," Allen said. "I'm going to Arkansas' camp, I think junior day too. Then I think I'm going to Oklahoma State's junior day. Then I might do a NIKE SPARQ Combine in March, but I'm not sure about that one yet."

Ellis is also anticipating offers from Arkansas State and North Carolina and says Stanford and Baylor have shown an early amount of interest. Tulsa also offered him in December. Ellis expects to make a decision potentially in the summertime, and one has to assume the Hogs are the frontrunner.

"I lived in Texas for the first five or six years of my life," Ellis said. "Some of those schools I'm kind of interested in, but I'm mostly an Arkansas fan, and I'll probably end up being an Arkansas Razorback. I'm going to wait it out and see what happens during the summer and see if any other opportunities come up.

"I'll probably go to some combines, and I'll go to Arkansas' junior day on the 11th. And then I'll probably head out to some camps in the summer."

Austin has been clocked at 4.48 seconds in the shuttle. Ellis sports a 300-pound bench press max and a time of 4.26 in the shuttle. He ran a 'low 4.6' in the 40-yard dash at the Semper Fidelis Junior Combine in January.
