Class 2A State Championship Previews

Class 2A Division I State Championship Preview

Daingerfield (13-1) vs. Cameron Yoe (14-0) Saturday 8:00pm Newsome Stadium, Mansfield:

It's the game that many believe is the best game of the weekend regardless of class. Two time defending state champion Daingerfield has shown themselves to be mortal this year.

The Tigers on offense don't quite have the firepower they once had, but they've found a way to get it done and that was evident in an 18-9 win over Littlefield.

Three year starter at QB Tyler Boyd led the Tigers in the win last week passing for 173 yards and two touchdowns along with rushing for 155 yards in the win. Tulsa commit WR Keyarris Garrett had 135 yards receiving and a touchdown.

The Tigers defense led by Donald Bryant and Steve Edmond held the potent Littlefield ground game in check in the win.

Cameron Yoe's high powered aerial attack triggered by senior quarterback Jack Rhoades hasn't been seriously challenged for the majority of the season. Yoe rolled past unbeaten Lago Vista last week 42-17 led by Rhoades who tossed three touchdown passes and threw for 234 yards.

The Yoemen have the speed and depth to stay with Daingerfield and if the Yoe offensive line can hold up I think they end Daingerfield's reign of terror this week as their passing attack matches up well with a Daingerfield secondary that has some questions.

Matt's Pick: Cameron Yoe by 4

Class 2A Division II State Championship Preview

Idalou (11-3) vs. Lexington (14-0) Saturday 4:00pm Newsome Stadium, Mansfield:

Idalou's defense was the story last week as the Wildcats completely shut down an outstanding Omaha Paul Pewitt offense in a 17-0 win. Idalou held Pewitt to just four first downs and 65 total yards. IHS quarterback Alec Estes threw a pair of touchdown passes to Tyler Dowdy to lead the Wildcats to play for their first ever title.

Lexington's offense got going in a big way last week as the Eagles hammered previously undefeated Refugio 45-24.

Sophomore QB Kogan Garrett led the potent Eagles offense throwing for 172 yards and four touchdowns, while Xavier Ward gave Lexington balance on the offensive side of the football with 178 yards on the ground and two touchdowns.

Lexington's balance and speed on the offensive side of the ball may be too much for a less athletic Idalou squad to handle. Go with LHS in this battle of green and gold.

Matt's Pick: Lexington by 11
