Fla. four-star has a leader

Trojan fans were caught off guard recently when Pahokee (Fla.) defensive tackle Richard Ash said the University of Southern California was his leader after he received his scholarship from Pete Carroll.

The 6-foot-4, 265-pound tackle plays - and plays it really well - a position of need for the Trojans and because of that it should come as no surprise to hear that the coaching staff has made such a strong push for his services.

"Oh man, I was excited by the offer because I had been talking with Coach Jethro Franklin for a while and I think he was one of the main reasons why I got it," he said. "Pete Carroll gave me the offer.

"He said that he's seen that I've got my grades in order and that shows that I'm a hard worker and the type of player that they look for at SC. He said he wants me to be a Trojan."
