Bulldogs add three weekend commitments

The Mississippi State Bulldogs picked up two huge commitments on Saturday when four-star recruits Chad Bumphis and Dennis Thames both decided to take their talents to Starkville.

Both Bumphis and Thames are on campus this weekend on their official visits and gave their word to new head coach Dan Mullen.

Bumphis is a speedy 5-foot-11, 185-pounder from Tupelo, Miss., and should give MSU immediate depth at wide receiver and make an impact on special teams as well.

Bumphis chose the Bulldogs over offers from Alabama, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Auburn, Florida and Ole Miss. Bumphis visited Alabama last weekend and has a visit to Tennessee scheduled on Jan. 23. It remains uncertain whether or not he will take that visit.

Thames is a talented two-way player from Louisville, Miss., but will likely be put to use in secondary at safety for State.

Thames picked the Bulldogs over offers from Southern Miss, Auburn, Michigan and Ole Miss. Thames took a trip to Hattiesburg last weekend and is scheduled to visit Michigan on Jan. 23 but it is unclear if he will make the trip.

Due to NCAA rules, Bulldogblitz will not be able to talk to these recruits until after they leave campus on Sunday evening. Stay tuned for the latest to see if anymore of the weekend visitors pull the trigger.
