How a Father views it !
On the eve of Father's Day, we thought we would look through the eyes (& heart) of a proud dad, as he son channels through the recruiting process.
Dave Walker is the father of WR prospect, Mike Walker, and although it is Mike who will ultimately make the decision on which college he will attend, Dave Walker is a great model of a fatherly shadow
one who encourages, supports and even corrects his son during these moments called college football recruiting.
How is the recruiting with Army coming along? "Mike is going to the Army junior day, but not the mini camp since we will be flying," says Dave Walker. "I will come with him and by the way, he did receive another letter confirming the offer (Army)."
Along with the offer from the Black Knights, Walker has an offer from Air Force and the possibility of offers from SMU and OSU, as well as Baylor.
How is recruiting unfolding overall for Mike? "As a parent, I think it is very important for Mike to go through the whole recruiting process to make sure that the Academy is what he wants to do," says Mike's dad, Dave Walker. "It is not just a football decision - it is a career decision. Accordingly, he will attend a full schedule and will be attending Army's Junior Day (6/22).

Mike has been training very hard in preparation for the various senior camps, hitting the facilities often 3-4 times a day; a weight workout, speed and quickness training at Train for the Game, plus yoga. In addition the Westlake receivers and QB throw 3-4 times a week in the evening, which makes for a busy summer workout regiment. According to Dave Walker, Mike's forty is down and his 20 yard shuttle is very constant. At the OSU senior camp his broad jump (9'8") was one of the top at the camp.
Who does Mike have as his leaders? "1st I think the Army and Air Force are at the top of his list," shares the senior Walker. "I am not sure I could say which one is on top. In my opinion he is a little more familiar with the Air Force simply because he took a tour on the way back from skiing at Steamboat two Spring Breaks ago and Stephen Shaffer (AF tight end) went to Westlake and was Mike's varsity mentor when he was moved up as a freshman in off-season."
And Army? "However, I think Mike is really is impressed by the Army in general because of his brother and grandfather," confirms Dave. "Mike watches the military channel all the time and it is mostly about the Army. I think the West Point history and the tour will really move him. I know it will me. His Mom wants lots of pictures taken."
Look for Walker to make his decision before the start of his high school team's two a day summer football practice which is August 4th and look for GoBlackKnights.com to bring it to you when it happens.
