Colleges stopping by to evaluate Evans

Clark Evans is a big, strong, mobile quarterback. So it should come as no surprise that he is often compared to Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Evans admits to being a big fan of Tebow.

"A lot of people want me to be a pocket passer but I like to run," explained the Los Alamitos (Calif.) High standout. "I was trying to be more of a pocket passer last season but we didn't have a solid running back so I was running 20 times a game. So I was basically our running back last year."

Evans accounted for nearly 3,000 yards of offense and 28 touchdowns as a junior.

Los Alamitos head coach John Barnes, who has sent countless players to the Division-1 level, can't speak highly enough of his star quarterback.

"He should be a six star player next year by your ratings," Barnes told analyst Greg Biggins. "He's an incredible talent and should be able to go wherever he wants. He's big and athletic and is a really good kid too. He's very tough and is easily one of the best players we've had here. I can't say enough about him. He's just a great prospect."

Numerous college coaches have been by Los Alamitos early on during the spring evaluation period to look at Evans. He has been in phone contact with Arizona State, Kansas State and Boise State.

Surprisingly, Evans currently holds just one scholarship offer.

"Colorado has offered and Boise [State] has said they are going to and Kansas [State] said that they are close to offering as well," he said. "I think I am going to wait it out, see what all my options are then go and see all the schools."

Evans said he is planning to visit Colorado either this summer or next fall during the season.

"Coach Hawkins has come out to the school quite a few times in the past," he explained. "I have kept in contact with them. Colorado is a great program in a great conference. It is a place where you can succeed at so I like them.

"But I am just really wide open right now."

Evans plans to attend the Elite 11 tryout camp at Cal and the Stanford NIKE Camp next week.
