JUCO LB set to visit MSU was able to find that linebacker Jon Dempsey of the College or the Sequoias will be taking an official visit to Michigan State University this weekend. was able to speak with the 6-foot-2, 215-pound prospect last night and got the latest on his recruitment.

"Michigan State just offered me," Dempsey said. "I talked with Coach Staten, Coach Tressel and Coach Dantonio. I was supposed to visit Louisville this weekend, but they fired the defensive coordinator so I postponed my visit there. Michigan State offered me a visit this weekend and I jumped on the opportunity. Maurice Graham and I are going out there."

This past fall Dempsey had an outstanding year for the College of the Sequoias. He was named All-Conference and All-American. His strong performance garnered him numerous scholarship offers. With the offer from the Spartans, Dempsey now holds scholarships from Michigan State, Louisville, Minnesota, Indiana and UAB. The Spartans and the Cardinals are his top two choices at this point.

"Michigan State and Louisville are the schools I am looking at the moist, he said. I hope to take a visit to Louisville in January after they hire a new coach."

The database shows Dempsey as a mid-year enroll, but that is not the case. Dempsey told us he would graduate in May. All of the schools that are recruiting him are aware of his expected graduation date.

As far as what the Spartans like about Dempsey and where he could play, he had the following to say.

"I like to play outside linebacker, but I can play inside as well. Michigan State said I could get a look at both positions. It really dopes not matter to me. I just want to help the team win and make sure I get on the field. Since I will only have two years I want to make sure I have a good opportunity to play right away."

Dempsey's plan is to take a visit to Michigan State and the follow that up with a visit to Louisville in January. It should be interesting to see if that visit takes place. The Spartans have several scholarships out to some impressive linebacker recruits. It could be a situation where the player(s) that jump on the scholarship get that opportunity.

Having Graham and Dempsey on the visit together certainly cannot hurt the Spartans chances with these two prospects. will be speaking with both of these players after they return from their visit to East Lansing. We will get the details about how the visit went and if these two prospects plan on continuing their careers in the Big Ten.
