Brown looks to be state's top in '08
It's been a while since the state of Mississippi was represented by a prospect receiving a five star rating by Rivals.com.
The wait may come to an end in 2008; it would appear that way by the offer sheet that Ocean Spring's wide receiver DeAndre Brown boasts.
With 11 officials offers already on the table from the likes of Ole Miss, Florida State, Miami, Florida, Alabama, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee and the other two instate schools, Brown appears to be perhaps the Magnolia state's top prospect.
Brown, 6-foot-5, 225-pound athlete that runs a 4.4 forty, tallied over 700 yards in receiving as a junior along with 6 touchdowns.
"All the coaches are telling my high school coaches they think I will be the top prospect in the state this year," Brown told Rebel Sports. Net. "It's hard to believe, I have always been taught to work hard and good things would come, apparently that's true."
Brown is looking for a school that loves to pass the football and a place where he can make a major difference and an immediate impact.
"How I communicate with the coaching staff will be a major thing I will look for when taking some visits this spring," Brown said. "Academics are important to me, so a school with a good graduation rate would also be good. Most importantly a place I feel comfortable at and that I can call my home for the next four years."
According to Brown one coaching staff has made a good first impression with him.
"The Ole Miss coaching staff has told my coaches that I could start today for them," Brown said. "They seem to be building something special there; I have a lot of interest in Ole Miss right now."
Does Brown have an early favorite?
"I'm pretty wide open to all the schools right now," Brown said. "If I had to pick one favorite right now it might be LSU."
Brown is also a two sport star and scored 23 points in his basketball game this week.
"I noticed that Ole Miss doesn't mind letting their athletes play both sports, that may be important to me," Brown said. "The only school I have been to so far is Southern Mississippi, I went to one of their games last year."
Brown led his Ocean Springs High School team to an 8-4 record and to the second round of the state playoffs.
"I'm excited about my senior season," Brown said. "We should be better this year and our goal is a state title."
