Matthews takes in USC practice

Cheraw, S.C., four-star defensive end Cliff Matthews is's No. 5 player in the Palmetto State this year and the No. 4 weak side defensive end in the nation. With an August 17th announcment scheduled, the 6-foot-4, 223-pound Matthews took an unofficial visit to South Carolina over the weekend.

"I went to Spring Valley's scrimmage to watch (Gamecock commtiment) Quintin Richardson. Then we went to lunch, and then we went over to the stadium (Williams-Brice).

While on campus, Matthews met with multiple Gamecock coaches,

"I talked with coach (Steve) Spurrier, coach (Brad) Lawing and coach (Tyrone) Nix. They were telling me a lot about staying in-state, and how I could be a big part of their recruiting class."
