Izzo, Spartans get Parker's first official visit this weekend

Jabari Parker's first official visit will happen this weekend at Michigan State, but it won't be the typical fall variety that's centered on the hoopla of a big home football game or Midnight Madness.

In fact, the Spartans' Midnight Madness happened last weekend and this week Michigan State's football team will be on the road in a heated rivalry game against Michigan on Saturday afternoon. The MSU campus won't be overflowing with fans and tailgate parties, but those who know Parker closely aren't surprised that he'd pick a non-football weekend to make his official visit.

Jabari Parker isn't the typical recruit, on the court or off.

Parker, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound small forward ranked the No.2 overall player in the 2013 Rivals 150, scheduled each of his official visits on his own, just as he scheduled each of his home visit dates. The official visits, to Parker, are more like business trips.

He's also considering Duke, Stanford, BYU and Florida among his finalists.

"His demeanor pretty much stays the same at all times when it comes to the recruiting process," said Sonny Parker, Jabari's father and a former NBA player. "He's been (to Michigan State) before, so he will have a few questions here and there, but it's just to get an overall feel for how things will be."
