Midland J.C. guard visiting Tech

Texas Tech has entered the picture in the recruitment of Midland (Texas) College point guard Ty Nurse. Fresh off of another run to the NJCAA National Championship game, Nurse has been hearing from the Red Raiders for a few weeks now.

"As soon as Coach Billy Gillispie got the job at Texas Tech he came down to Midland, I think it was maybe two days later, and he just came to see me play," Nurse said. "He told me he had heard some nice things about me. Pretty much ever since then he's been recruiting me pretty hard."

Even though the relationship is still somewhat new, the 6-foot-1, 180-pounder sounds like he's been comfortable so far with Coach Gillispie's method of approach.

"I think we've built a pretty good relationship to now. He's a straight shooter, and he's very direct. I like that," he said. "[Gillispie] told me what he wanted as far as what role I would be expected to fill, and he told me that he wanted me to come be a part of something special with him there. We've been talking almost every day and he's visited me a lot. So, yeah, I think we have a good relationship."

Nurse has been unfamiliar with the Red Raiders program for the most part, but he feels as though seeing the university in person could go a long way in changing that.

"I just know some general things about them really. Them playing in the Big 12 and Bob Knight coaching there. I just need to see it for myself to get a feel for what the town and campus is like."

Nurse is expected to visit Lubbock this weekend and a decision may be reached soon thereafter.

"I've been considering Creighton, Umass, and Rhode Island," he said. "There are a few more I'm hearing from, but as of now, if I like Texas Tech when I visit then I'm going to sign with them. They're who I've been talking with right now and I've liked what they've had to say."
