Pickerington (Ohio) North High School in suburban Columbus has turned out some high level prospects recently and that trend looks like it will be continuing in the 2013 class with defensive end Jake Butt. One of the top juniors-to-be in Ohio, the 6-foot-6, 220-pound prospect burst onto the scene this past fall with an impressive sophomore campaign that saw him lead the Panthers in sacks.

"I just came into the season looking for a spot (to play)," said Butt. "It was pretty hard with guys like Darien (Bryant), Pat (Elflein), and Luke (Carothers) and a bunch of the other good linemen but my goal was to just go out there and work and earn my spot. I felt like I contributed pretty well."

After being a major contributor on the basketball team this winter, Butt will now have a chance to go out and take some unofficial visits during the spring and he also plans to be active on the camp circuit over the summer.

"I want to go down to Cincinnati for a spring practice and Indiana for a spring practice," he said. "I'll be at Ohio State's camp and I'll probably camp at Cincinnati and Bowling Green."

College camps are a huge part of earning scholarship offers and Butt is hoping that a strong summer will put him high on the boards of college recruiters.

"I just want to show (the coaches) my work ethic, that I'm not just going to give up on a play," he explained. "I also want to show them my speed for a guy my size, my strength, and try to show them my technique."

Butt is just in the beginning stages of the recruiting process but he did grow up following three teams and would like to make trips to see all three at some point.

"Ohio State definitely (is a school of interest), Cincinnati because my Dad went there and my Grandpa actually played at Notre Dame so I would love to go there too," he said.
